The Sport Directors and SSWSC Events Manager Kevin Sankey, along with our staff and volunteers, take great pride in putting on the highest quality competitions. These events in particular stood out.
Moose Barrows Trophy Race:
Pros Mentor SSWSC Juniors
For the first time in decades, pro ski racing returned to Howelsen Hill as the SSWSC and the city of Steamboat Springs jointly hosted the World Pro Ski Tour. With support from Alpine Bank, SSWSC debuted a unique team event where the top eight pros, including 2-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety, mentored teams of SSWSC racers from 10 to 15 years old in a dual race alongside the pro course. Later, under the lights, with three SSWSC FIS racers in the top 16 (and one FIS coach), veteran pro Robert Cone eventually took home the Moose Barrows Trophy in front of nearly 1,000 fans, and many aspiring young SSWSC racers.
